Samsung announced at its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event that Samsung Wallet will add native stablecoin support, placing digital dollar tokens directly inside an app already used for credit cards, ID documents, transit passes, and loyalty rewards.

The company demonstrated a wallet interface showing USD Coin (USDC) with functions for sending, receiving, and adding funds. Samsung has not confirmed Circle as an official partner, named a launch date, or identified which stablecoins will be supported when the feature becomes available.

The Samsung Wallet is already available in 61 countries and has approximately 19 million users in South Korea alone. The stablecoin feature would sit inside an app that most Galaxy owners already have installed, removing the need to download a separate crypto application or open an exchange account. Samsung's smartphone specialist product manager Lee Dinham said the integration aims to make Galaxy devices the foundation for an interconnected financial ecosystem combining payments, rewards, and digital assets. "This will make Samsung one of the first major mobile phone brands to offer native stablecoins on smartphones, enabling fast and reliable transfer of digital value," Dinham said at the event.

Distribution and the 800 Million Figure

Samsung has been associated with an 800 million device figure in coverage of this announcement. That number refers to Samsung's internal target for devices running Galaxy AI by the end of 2026, not a count of Samsung Wallet users or devices confirmed to receive the stablecoin feature. No market tier, device model, or rollout order has been specified. The US remains the only confirmed market. The addressable population will be substantially smaller than 800 million once eligibility, geography, and Wallet install base are accounted for. That said, even a fraction of that reach would represent a distribution footprint no crypto-native wallet has achieved on Android to date.

Industry analysts who spoke to CoinDesk framed the significance of the announcement in terms of distribution. "Distribution is the scarce asset here, and Samsung owns a great deal of it," said Joseph Goh, director and head of Asia Pacific at crypto advisory firm Areta. Ben Nadareski, CEO of Solstice, described it as distribution catching up to liquidity, noting that stablecoins inside Samsung Wallet point toward everyday spending in a way that existing crypto infrastructure does not. Robby Yung, CEO of Investments at Animoca Brands, called it good news for crypto adoption overall, though he was less certain it gives Samsung an advantage over crypto-native platforms specifically.

The Infrastructure Play Behind the Announcement

The Galaxy Wallet announcement is one part of a broader Samsung strategy that extends into crypto infrastructure. Three Samsung affiliates, Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS and Samsung Card, agreed in May to acquire a combined 4% stake in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, for $408 million. During Samsung SDS's Q2 earnings call, CEO Lee Jun-hee described the Dunamu stake as a strategic move to enter the digital asset infrastructure business, including stablecoins and AI-powered payments.

Areta’s Joseph Goh said the Dunamu deal is the more telling half of the strategy. "The wallet announcement secured distribution; SDS and Dunamu will secure the infrastructure beneath it," Goh said. He added that Samsung appears to be building toward positions in both dollar and Korean won stablecoins while South Korea's regulatory framework is still being developed. South Korea published a draft of its Digital Asset Basic Act in April, which covers trading, custody, supervision, and stablecoin issuance, though no implementation deadline has been set.

Samsung's existing crypto history stretches back to 2019, when it launched a hardware-isolated digital asset vault through Knox, allowing users to store Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and other assets and connect external hardware wallets like Ledger's Nano S and Nano X directly to a Galaxy device. That foundation, combined with the Dunamu stake and the Galaxy Wallet stablecoin roadmap, points toward a company building crypto infrastructure on multiple layers rather than adding a single feature.
